Meet the Founding Company

DevforGov was built by Geo Applied Realities (Geo A.R.), a New Zealand-founded company with a decade of experience delivering digital education tools for public sector organisations across the globe.

With a team of 15+ specialists, Geo A.R. has worked with more than 150 cities and government departments, from Auckland Council to the City of San Antonio, along with agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (Te Rākau Whakamarumaru), SA Water in Australia, and Earth Sciences New Zealand.

Projects include Magical Park, the world's first augmented reality playground, What's the Plan Stan, teaching children emergency preparedness, Benefit Sharing Compass for indigenous communities, and three climate change games, developed in conjunction with Earth Sciences New Zealand.

Geo A.R. is recognised internationally, including Bronze at the International Serious Play Awards, Silver at the Global Good Awards, and named among the Most Creative People in Gaming by Idealog.

Our Mission

Building a Sustainable Future

We started DevforGov because we kept seeing the same problem: good people in local government, doing their best for their communities, held back by technology that was too expensive, too complicated or too slow to get to market.

So we took a different approach.

Our app recycling model means the work we do for one council doesn't disappear when the project ends, it gets adapted and redeployed across different communities, so the cost of innovation gets shared. What took one team months to build, the next team gets in weeks, even days.

And because not every community has the same budget, select solutions are available free of charge.

Less waste. More accessible. More impact. Better for everyone.

Serious games deliver a clear message: we have choices, & how we act, individually & collectively, shapes what comes next and is a powerful way of learning.

Games give people who are more experiential learners, the chance of being able to play with something, mess with it, to see a connection into the real world.

As a tireless advocate of rights for cats, I'm a huge supporter of social good games. I believe they are a amazing educational tools to promote topics like animal welfare.
